Paul James Disco is mostly Paul James Askew, and here's Paul's profile.

Early Years

Paul's music passion was properly evident in his early school days.  Especially on Sunday nights, between 5-7pm, when the charts were playing on Radio 1, Paul would record the tracks onto tape. The week would be spent manually splicing the tape to create his own tapes of the best songs.

The Original PJ's Disco

That music enthusiasm and interest was apparent at school and so it was quite natural that Paul was appointed to run the school light and sound systems.  So for school assemblies, shows, plays and discos, Paul was learning and honing his skills.

Than at 17 - while studying for A levels, Paul set up his own mobile disco -PJ's disco.  This was especially popular with school friends celebrating their 18th birthdays.  People tended to have the choice of either playing vinyl or tapes through Mum and Dad's lounge hifi, or hiring a traditional large scale DJ with kit that would take up half the room and blow the roof off.

Or there was..."PJ the DJ", with compact quality kit, with an ear for the right music for the right atmosphere.  And charging enough to be able to buy the latest music and live a moderate student lifestyle.  By modern day standards, the DJ kit was basic, two vinyl desks, mixer and amplification in one.  Two speakers to plug in, generating a whole 50w mono, lower spec than basic a home hi-fi today.

The actual original business card

Add some rope lights, a set of four chasing lights, a rotating amber beacon and a chain of 10 60w coloured bulbs.  All complemented by a rig made to measure by Dad from angled steel and a wrap around curtain made to measure by Mum.  And it all fitted into a Mini too, just.

The mainstream desk life.

After that enjoyable and successful couple of years, Paul went sensible mainstream, going on to study at University.  Even more mainstream followed - with a strong "for the public good" drive and making a difference.  Paul became a University lecturer in Statistics, then went into a successful Civil Service and public sector career.  This was mostly focussed around developing and running national research and analysis programmes in housing, education, policing, health and heritage.  That was all to directly inform national policy and delivery of local public services.  Paul became a formally qualified and very well experienced project manager. Paul had continued to follow the disco and dance music scene and as personal passionate interest.

Coming back to my roots

Having done lots of public good it was time for a change, and something new and different.  Paul was naturally drawn back towards that the dance music interest and experience and hence... Paul James Disco was established.  The modern day big brother of the original PJ's disco. There's a strong ethos around service,  professionalism, and quality with a continued passion for the power of music and dance to create great positive social and personal experience.  It's great being in the happiness business, helping people celebrate what's important to them, and bringing people closer together.
